Brake the Cycle

Meet the Cyclists

Joe Reid

Poet, Prophet, King

Joe has worked as a professional fundraiser, social worker and currently, eco tramp. He has previously adventured in East Africa and has experience in orchestrating independent charity challenges, including a 100km run in June 2010.

As well as being tall, dark and handsome, Joe enjoys second hand book buying and dreams of bringing permaculture to the people. If he were a movie star, Joe would be Errol Flynn’s pencil moustache-defining Robin Hood.

In ten years time, he’s committed to living within a community that is completely ecologically and socially sustainable, maybe even converting his Tuk-Tuk to recycled cooking oil. If you’re wondering how Joe’s voice sounds, think Jeremy Irons with a hint of Daniel Craig.

Marcus Letts

Festival Maker and Eco Tramp

Marcus met Joe while tramping London’s busy streets as a fundraiser. He is a founding organiser of Cloud Cuckoo Land, the community focused performing arts festival in the Clouds, held in early August somewhere over Somerset’s Mendip Hills.

Marcus likes dancing wildly in muddy fields. He loves slow travel and simple living, but will probably hang on to his dad’s legendary London to Baghdad double-decker buses. If Marcus were a Disney character, he’d be the Jungle Book’s arguably ginger haired King of the Swingers, Louie.

Inspired by the tramping of literary hobos from Hesse to Kerouac, his ongoing experiments with new ways of living are nomadic, both in thought and deed. While riding his bicycle, Marcus enjoys meditating on mind blowing ideas of metaphysics, radical politics and philosophical mysticism. He’s slowly tramping towards an awareness of suchness, and likes nothing more than sharing his truths with like-minded folk. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
